Management of chronic pelvic pain does not have a one-size-fits-all approach. In the Understanding Pelvic Pain section, we reviewed that chronic pelvic pain is more of a symptom of various pain conditions, rather than a distinct diagnosis. There are many separate conditions that contribute to pelvic pain, and each individual person may have a different mix of pain conditions. For this reason, there is no treatment option that works for every single person with chronic pelvic pain. In addition to using effective treatments for individual pain conditions, we want to also help you manage ALL of the ways that chronic pelvic pain impacts your life. Depending on the symptoms you are experiencing, this may mean trying some new strategies to improve sleep, manage your activity level so that you don’t feel exhausted, better communicate with your family or health care provider, or use relaxation or mindfulness techniques to address the anxiety that so often occurs during a pain flare. We’ve also included detailed information about how strategies like physical therapy, acupressure, or physical activity may improve pain symptoms. This section is not intended to give comprehensive advice about every individual pain condition. Rather, we’ve included a number of management strategies that are likely to be beneficial for most people with chronic pelvic pain, regardless of the individual pain contributors.
